In today's Skinny on Options Data Science, Dr. Data (Michael Rechenthin, PhD) explained how data science can be used to analyze large quantities of data. As an example, he examined over 30,500 of Donald Trump's tweets to better understand how modern data science techniques can be used to find the most popular themes and tone of tweets for each year. As Dr. Data said, "the computing power and techniques that we now have allows us to do things that would have been impossible just a few years ago.
He started out with a table of some of the most popular words by year and then quickly transitioned to providing a "tone score" to each of the tweets.
An example of a positive tweet was:
Gov. John Kasich of the GREAT, GREAT, GREAT state of Ohio called to congratulate me on the win. The people of Ohio were incredible!
And an example of a negative tweet was:
Gen. John Allen, who I never met by the way spoke against me last night, failed badly in his fight against ISIS. His record = BAD #NeverHillary
All of this was done automatically with the use of data science / machine learning algorithms. To see more, please watch the show!
