Soybeans & Corn: It's Planting Time

Closing the Gap - Futures Edition

Spring is planting season for Corn and Soybeans (and Fall for Wheat). During this time, the futures tend to see larger daily expected moves, providing trade opportunities in the futures of these grains.

In this segment, Pete explains the difference between "Old Crop" and "New Crop," which depends on planting and harvesting months as well as when it's available to end users.

From there, our team examines the price of corn and beans over the last few years and the tradable ratio of beans to corn. As it currently stands, Soybeans are trading at a premium to Corn. With this in mind, Pete walks through a futures setup that would capitalize on a reversion in this ratio.
