It’s been awhile since we featured a Future Star but Anish S. was worth the wait. Tom and Tony both met Anish previously and were excited to have him join them for a discussion about his trading experiences so far.
Anish lives in Fremont, CA which is just across San Francisco Bay from the heart of Silicon Valley. He is in 11th grade and is 16 years old. Anish has been trading the tastytrade way for about 2 years. He loves basketball and has been performing a Punjabi folk dance, known as the Bhagra, since he was 6.
Anish is following in his father’s footsteps. Anish’s father is an Electrical Engineer but also has been trading stocks, currencies, futures and options for 20 years. Anish is trading in his parents accounts. His trades have been defined risk trades and he started out selling Iron Condors about 2 years ago. Luckily for him, he was on vacation in August of last year when the markets experienced a precipitous drop. Anish is up approximately 30%-40% over the last year (it’s not easy to determine because he isn’t trading a separate account).
Anish started a club at school to teach his classmates about trading. He was surprised at how little they knew. Our Future Star blamed the media for portraying trading as difficult and only for the elite. He believes this inhibits people from getting involved. The guys and Anish both had stock put to them in Pandora from a short put position. Tom asked if he sold calls against the long stock but Anish said he exited the position to preserve capital. Anish’s biggest takeaway was that traders have to stay actively involved.
