All I Want for Christmas

By:Dylan Ratigan

With the holidays upon us, we’ve decided to use this week’s piece as a wishlist of things for 2022. Since both Dylan and Josh write these pieces, we’ll break this up by author. But we’ll kick it off with Tom’s wish.

I just want a 2022 iteration of meme stocks. I don’t necessarily mean stocks, specifically, but rather the meme phenomenon taking root in an asset class or classes, creating more trading opportunities. That’s it. That’s all I want.

Sure, I could wish for world peace. Maybe an end to Covid and return to what was once considered “normalcy”. Even an end to political divisiveness has merit. But I’m trying to keep my list realistic which is why I just want one thing: teleportation.

I talked about this with Tom on Truth or Skepticism this week. I think he thought I was nuts, but I’m 100% serious. The technology exists at a microscopic level. The ability to move electrons from one place to another has been demonstrated. Scaling it and not killing anyone in the process is a legitimate concern, but the potential to teleport exists and it’s a game changer.

The potential to move people and matter isn’t just about recreational travel. It offers the potential to get doctors immediately on site where they’re most needed. Soldiers, injured in the field, could be teleported to hospitals. Food and medicine could be moved in the blink of an eye vs. taking days, weeks or months to reach their destination. The entire logistics industry that’s currently experiencing backlogs in places like Long Beach where container ships sit in the ocean, polluting the atmosphere, waiting to be unloaded and transported by truck or train (further polluting the atmosphere) would be upended.

Teleportation can and will change the world in ways we can’t imagine. It’s a revolution closer than most people realize. So why not have it happen in 2022?

My list is a bit longer, doesn’t necessarily offer the same revolutionary appeal (though I think it does) but also seems more within our reach.

1.  I want a new sandwich. When was the last time we invented a new great sandwich?

2.  You know those single use ice packs that you just squeeze and then they turn cold? I want that technology built into bottles of water, tea, etc. I want the ability to have iced tea on demand.

3.  A loaf of toast. If we can create croutons, why can’t we create whole loaves of toast? We all know the expression, “It’s the best thing since sliced bread.” Get ready for, “It’s the best thing since toast in a bag.”

4.  Can I please get some simple clarification on when “Y” is a vowel? The whole, “sometimes thing” has plagued me all my life.

5.  A new president, GM and coach for the Chicago Bears.

Happy Holidays!
